Iran Launches Dozens of Drones at US Base in UAE
(MENAFN) Iran's military announced early Monday that it had unleashed dozens of explosive drones against US troops and helicopters stationed at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, framing the assault as retaliation for a US strike on Iran's Larak Island.
According to Iranian news agencies, the army stated: "Since early this morning, the Islamic Republic of Iran Army has targeted locations housing US military helicopters and personnel at Al Minhad base in the UAE with dozens of explosive drones."
The military described Al Minhad as a critical logistics and air transport hub for foreign forces operating in the region and warned of further retaliatory action against US troops.
Iranian officials said the strike was carried out in direct response to the deaths of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members and civilians during Sunday's US attack on Iran's Larak Island.
That earlier operation saw US forces strike two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island—the first American strikes on Iranian soil since late July. The targeted systems were reportedly being prepared to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC reported that several of its fighters and civilians were killed or wounded in the strike and pledged to retaliate.
An Iranian news agency reported that preliminary findings pointed to drones as the method used in the attack on Al Minhad.
