Pezeshkian Says Iran Avoids War, Will Respond to Aggression

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran does not seek a military confrontation but will respond firmly to any attack following the US strike on Larak Island.

Speaking before leaving for Kyrgyzstan to attend an international summit, Pezeshkian says Iran will take decisive action if further attacks are carried out against the country, according to reports.

Iran “will give a decisive response to the aggressors” if attacked, he said.

He also warns that continued instability across the region would serve no country’s interests and could create consequences for all sides.

“Instability and unrest in the region are not in the interest of any country and will challenge everyone,” he added.

Pezeshkian is traveling to Bishkek to participate in a summit bringing together leaders of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The comments come after US forces reportedly struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island on Sunday, in what was described as the first US military action against Iranian territory since late July.

The systems were allegedly being prepared to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
