Iran Says It Targeted US Airbases in Jordan with Ballistic Missiles
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it carries out ballistic missile strikes against two US military airbases in Jordan early Monday, describing the operation as retaliation for a US attack on Iran’s Larak Island.
The IRGC says its Aerospace Force targets the King Hussein and Azraq airbases as part of a coordinated operation involving both missiles and drones.
According to the Iranian force, the strikes hit technical and maintenance facilities as well as locations used to house fighter aircraft, resulting in what it describes as “heavy damage.”
The IRGC warns that any additional attacks against Iran would trigger a more powerful response.
The reported retaliation follows a US strike on two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island on Sunday. According to reports, the operation represents the first US strikes on Iranian territory since late July.
The launchers were reportedly targeted because they were allegedly being prepared to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC says the US operation resulted in the deaths and injuries of Iranian military personnel and civilians and vows to retaliate.
Iranian media reports that initial information indicates drones may have been used in the US attack.
