Ben-Gvir Says He Is Pleased with Conditions in Israeli Jails
(MENAFN) Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir says he is “pleased” with the harsh conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and claims direct responsibility for the state of the prison system.
In a video released Sunday, Ben-Gvir is shown speaking with Palestinian female detainees about the conditions inside the facility.
“The conditions here are very bad, and we women are not afforded any special rights, such as access to personal necessities,” a Palestinian prisoner said.
“This is our third day without showers. We are not receiving medical treatment, and our clothes are not clean," she added.
Responding to the complaints, Ben-Gvir says that previous standards inside the prisons have been abandoned.
“The good conditions that used to exist in the prisons are over,” Ben-Gvir responded through an interpreter.
In a message accompanying the footage, he also dismisses the prisoners’ complaints, saying, "The 'whining' of the terrorists about the conditions in the prisons doesn't work on me," he also wrote in a post accompanying the video.
When the detainee asks authorities to improve the conditions, Ben-Gvir refuses the request.
The incident is not the first occasion on which Ben-Gvir has visited Palestinian detainees and confronted or mocked them over their imprisonment conditions.
