Early Voting Opens in Remote Russian Areas Ahead of Duma Elections
(MENAFN) Early voting for Russia’s upcoming State Duma elections begins Sunday in remote and difficult-to-access areas across several regions, according to the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC).
The early ballot option is intended for voters who may be unable to reach polling stations during the main voting period. Those eligible include small groups of military personnel, residents of isolated northern communities, reindeer herders, employees working at remote industrial facilities, personnel stationed at polar and meteorological stations, and crews aboard vessels expected to remain at sea during the regular voting dates.
Regional election authorities are responsible for determining whether early voting will be offered in their respective areas. The advance voting period can run from Aug. 30 through Sept. 17.
Authorities can organize early voting for entire groups of voters assigned to polling stations in isolated locations or for specific individuals who live or work far from polling centers and cannot reach them using regular transportation.
The number of people expected to participate through early voting is relatively limited compared with Russia’s overall electorate.
