Rescued Passengers Reach Kyrenia Port After Vessel Capsizes
(MENAFN) Passengers rescued after a vessel overturned off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are brought safely to Kyrenia Port, where those requiring medical attention are set to be transported to hospitals.
TRNC Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arikli says coast guard and rescue teams brought the injured passengers ashore, with patients expected to be taken to different hospitals across the region based on the severity of their conditions.
Arikli says a large-scale rescue effort is underway, while authorities are also examining the circumstances and possible causes behind the vessel’s capsizing.
The TRNC Health Ministry says comprehensive preparations have been made at both the port and medical facilities to ensure passengers receive immediate treatment following the incident.
"The maximum level of human resources has been mobilized to ensure a rapid response to any potential needs, and all preparations have been completed for medical teams that will be deployed at the port and hospitals," the ministry said.
Medical teams and emergency personnel have been placed on standby at Kyrenia Port and hospitals to respond quickly to the needs of passengers rescued from the vessel.
