China’s Xi Jinping Attends SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on Sunday ahead of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, as part of a wider foreign trip that also includes a state visit to Egypt.
Xi is visiting Kyrgyzstan and Egypt at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, according to reports.
The Chinese president is accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cai Qi, a senior Chinese Communist Party official who heads the party’s General Office.
The two-day SCO summit is scheduled to begin Monday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders from member states expected to gather in Bishkek.
The meeting comes as the regional organization marks 25 years since its establishment and continues efforts to strengthen cooperation among its members while providing an alternative center of influence to Western-led global structures.
The SCO currently includes China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus as its member states.
