Shooting At Swiss Event Leaves One Dead, Five Injured


(MENAFN) At least one person has died and five others have been injured after gunfire erupted at an event attended by approximately 3,500 people in the Swiss town of Aarau early Sunday.

Several of the injured are reportedly in serious condition, while authorities have launched an extensive operation to locate those responsible for the shooting.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possible motive have yet to be established. "Possible motives and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear," police said.

Authorities are continuing to search for the suspected shooter or shooters and have provided no further details regarding potential suspects.

Footage reportedly recorded close to the scene appeared to contain the sound of roughly 10 gunshots, according to reports.

Police advised members of the public to stay away from the area while the operation remained underway. A Swiss military Super Puma helicopter was also deployed to monitor the broader Aarau area.

Aarau is situated approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Zurich.
