Dutch Singer Sharmila Turns Heartbreak Into Four New Songs

Sharmila has said the song reflects her own experience with organizations in the social work field, experiences she felt were unfair to her and to Tanisha and specifically, the censorship she faced as a woman artist in the Netherlands. It is the most confronting song on the release, written not to accuse but to be heard.
"Human Race" shifts the mood toward hope, built around the refrain "stand up for the human race," a simple, direct appeal to compassion and solidarity at a time when Sharmila feels both are in short supply. "No Music On Mars" closes the collection on a wistful, almost playful note, with the line "there is no music on Mars, no water on Venus" serving as a reminder to appreciate life, sound, and connection here on Earth, while we still have it.
"Every song on this release came from something real," Sharmila said. "'Golden Heart' is for Tanisha, and writing it was the only way I knew how to hold onto her. 'Right And Wrong' is harder to talk about, but I needed to say it anyway. Music has always been the place where I can tell the truth." She added that she hopes listeners take something personal from each track, whatever they are going through. "If one person hears 'Human Race' and feels less alone, that's enough for me."
