Doha, Qatar: Proving a debt is not necessarily limited to having a written document, as other means of proof that could be utilized include text messages, the debtor's acknowledgment of the debt, witness testimonies, and bank transfers, as well as other forms of evidence that could potentially hold legal weight, clarified Lawyer Khalid Mohammed Al-Harmi.

Speaking to Qatar TV, Al-Harmi said that a debtor's acknowledgment of the debt through a conversation or an electronic message can serve as important evidence for claiming the amount. However, this remains subject to legal and technical regulations, particularly regarding the authentication of the message or recording and proving it genuinely belongs to the debtor.

Al-Harmi pointed out that the mere existence of audio recordings or messages is not enough. Their attribution to the debtor must be verified, and the necessary legal conditions for their admissibility must be met, alongside clearly proving the origin, value, and specific details of the debt.

He also emphasized the importance of documenting any financial amount lent to others, pointing out that failing to document a debt can lead to difficulties in proving it later, opening the door to disputes and conflicts between the two parties.

Al-Harmi stated that it is best for individuals to ensure they write down and document the owed amount to avoid any future disputes. He explained that proving a debt becomes more complicated without clear documents or evidence, as one party might make a claim while the other party makes another.
