War Shows That Technology Changes Military Arithmetic But Does Not Abolish It - Expert

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Can Kasapoğlu, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.

"Technology compresses military arithmetic; it does not abolish it. The war in Ukraine has resurrected First World War trenches-and humans must still man and hold them," Kasapoğlu said.

The expert emphasized that even amid rapid technological development, the outcome of a war largely depends on the ability of the sides to provide their forces with the necessary resources and maintain their capacity to conduct military operations.

"Drones do the killing for over 80 percent of the battlefield targets, while Kyiv is shifting frontline logistics to ground robots. Yet this is an adaptation contest, not a Ukrainian monopoly: Russia has learned and institutionalized drone warfare through formations such as Rubicon," Kasapoğlu said.

At the same time, he called the maritime dimension of the Russian-Ukrainian war the most convincing evidence that technology can compensate for a numerical disadvantage.

"Without a navy, Ukraine has damaged or eliminated a share of Russia's Black Sea Fleet and denied it freedom of action. Unmanned surface vessels, USVs, and anti-ship missiles helped prevent an amphibious threat to Odesa," he said.

As Ukrinform reported, Can Kasapoğlu believes that Ukraine is providing NATO countries with invaluable lessons - from the effective use of low-cost technologies on the battlefield to building national resilience and preparing for prolonged wars.
