Remains Exhumed In Volyn Villages Of Ostrivky And Volia Ostrovetska Reburied
“Over a hundred people gathered for the reburial. Representatives from both the Polish and Ukrainian sides arrived to pay their last respects to the deceased,” the report states.
A burial pit was dug on the grounds of the former village of Ostrivky, at the entrance to the memorial. It contains 55 wooden coffins. Polish and Ukrainian priests recited prayers for the repose of the souls of those who died during World War II.
Numerous representatives of Polish and Ukrainian authorities, as well as descendants of residents of the former villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska, took part in the ceremony. According to RMF24, those present included Piotr Zgorzelski, Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm; Marta Chenkovska, Minister of Culture and National Heritage; and Karol Polejowski, Deputy Director of the Institute of National Remembrance. Also in attendance were former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Paweł Kowal, Chair of the Sejm Committee on Foreign Affairs. The Ukrainian side was represented, among others, by Deputy Minister of Culture Ivan Verbytskyi.

The remains of one person were exhumed in the village of Ostrivky near the cemetery across from the memorial; however, the date of burial is still being determined.
The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance reported that the remains of men, women, and children were exhumed. Samples were collected during the work for DNA analysis.
