Türkiye Commemorates 104th Victory Day Anniversary
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday marked the 104th anniversary of Victory Day, honoring the major military triumph that became a defining moment in Türkiye’s War of Independence.
"Today, we proudly mark the 104th anniversary of the Great Victory, which went down in history as the 'Battle of the Commander-in-Chief' and constituted the most important stage of our National Struggle," Erdogan said in a statement issued by the Communications Directorate.
He extended his congratulations to the Turkish people, the Turkish Cypriot community and Turkish citizens living abroad on the Aug. 30 national holiday. He also expressed appreciation to foreign guests participating in celebrations at Turkish diplomatic missions.
Erdogan said the victory of Aug. 30 reaffirmed the Turkish nation’s longstanding connection to the lands where it has lived freely for centuries, describing them as its "eternal homeland."
"The Great Victory, which also paved the way for the establishment of our Republic, proclaimed to the entire world that our nation would never accept captivity, while also helping break the imperialist encirclement of our geography," he said.
According to Erdogan, the perseverance and bravery demonstrated by the Turkish people more than a century ago continue to provide a source of strength in the present day, despite the severe difficulties faced at the time.
"The determination, courage and resolve we displayed as a nation 104 years ago despite all kinds of adversity remain our strongest source of motivation today."
He said Türkiye is continuing to pursue its national objectives while drawing confidence from its historical legacy. Erdogan pointed to developments across areas including energy, defense, science, technology and foreign policy as examples of the country’s progress.
"At a time when wars, conflicts, crises, and political uncertainties are increasing around the world, particularly in our region, Türkiye stands out with its proactive policies that are principled, resolute, and centered on humanitarian values," he said.
Erdogan further highlighted what he described as Türkiye’s commitment to opposing oppression and supporting those facing injustice, regardless of their identity or the party responsible.
"I would like to state with satisfaction that today there is a Türkiye that strives to prevent oppression regardless of who perpetrates it, stands by the oppressed regardless of who they are, and does not hesitate to pay a price when necessary for this cause."
Concluding his message, Erdogan invoked an ancient Turkic saying to emphasize the nation’s continued determination.
"Unless the blue sky above collapses and the dark earth below is pierced, no one will be able to make Türkiye and the Turkish nation abandon their blessed struggle."
