Israel Tightens Al-Mughayyir Siege, Blocks Village Entrance
(MENAFN) Israeli forces intensify restrictions on the occupied West Bank village of Al-Mughayyir, keeping its only remaining entrance shut for 20 consecutive hours and preventing residents from moving in or out, according to a local official.
Amin Abu Aliya, head of the village council, says restrictions and attacks targeting residents and farmers have become increasingly severe over the past 20 days.
He explains that Israeli forces repeatedly close the village entrance in the morning, preventing workers from reaching their jobs, and later keep it shut to stop residents who are outside from returning home.
According to Abu Aliya, the restrictions appear intended to create living conditions that pressure workers to remain outside the village and eventually push Palestinians to leave the area.
The village council head says Israeli military and police forces, accompanied by Israeli occupiers, entered Al-Mughayyir on Friday following an allegation that an occupier’s sheep had been stolen.
Abu Aliya rejects the accusation as unfounded, saying the forces nevertheless pursued Palestinian livestock owners, entered a residential property and attempted to confiscate sheep. The incident reportedly led to clashes in which several Palestinians were injured.
He adds that the village entrance has remained closed since the raid, with ambulances and Civil Defense vehicles also being prevented from entering while the blockade is in place.
