Severe Storm Disrupts Electricity Across Central Syria
(MENAFN) A powerful storm causes widespread electricity outages in several parts of Syria’s central Homs province on Saturday, according to local authorities.
The storm, which begins affecting the country on Friday afternoon, knocks more than 20 medium-voltage power lines out of service, disrupting electricity supplies across multiple areas of the province.
The outages affect rural communities including Taldu, Al-Mukharram, Shin, Talkalakh and Palmyra, as well as other surrounding areas.
Electricity technicians continue working to repair the damaged network and gradually restore power to the affected communities.
Syrian authorities had previously warned that unstable weather conditions would continue from Friday afternoon through Monday evening, with heavy thunderstorms expected across the country.
The latest disruption comes as Syria’s already fragile infrastructure remains highly vulnerable to extreme weather after years of extensive destruction during the 14-year war under the Bashar al-Assad regime between 2011 and 2024.
