Araghchi: Israel-Aligned Actors Pushing War With 'Rosy' Claims
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi alleged Saturday that factions within the US government and figures aligned with Israel are working to manipulate global energy markets in order to prolong the war against Iran.
Posting on X, Araghchi said intelligence gathered by Tehran points to substantial efforts aimed at gaming energy markets.
He claimed elements of the US government were leaning on compliant media outlets to drive energy prices for personal benefit, while keeping President Donald Trump locked into what he called a losing war. Araghchi further charged that actors aligned with Israel were fueling the conflict through overly optimistic assessments, adding that ordinary American consumers were bearing the economic fallout. He offered no evidence or additional detail to back the claims.
The accusations arrive against the backdrop of the US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on Feb. 28 and has taken a heavy toll on regional energy flows and maritime security.
Much of the conflict has revolved around the Strait of Hormuz, the critical corridor through which a large portion of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas normally flows. Iran has curtailed transit through the strait, while Washington has responded with a naval blockade and tightened sanctions on Tehran.
A June memorandum of understanding between the two countries aimed to de-escalate hostilities, including terms addressing the strait, the naval blockade and sanctions. Tehran maintains that a full return to normal navigation through the waterway hinges on Washington following through on its commitments under that agreement.
