China, Nepal Strengthen Flood Response Cooperation After Deadly Disaster
(MENAFN) China and Nepal agree to deepen cooperation on emergency response and humanitarian relief as severe flash floods affect both countries, leaving at least 633 people dead and thousands more missing.
Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal says he holds a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during which both officials express "profound grief" over the deaths and widespread destruction caused by the floods.
The two ministers reaffirm their commitment to improving coordination on emergency response and relief operations, while also agreeing to strengthen the exchange of real-time hydrological information to help authorities respond more effectively to future developments.
Khanal expresses Nepal’s appreciation for China’s assistance with ongoing rescue and relief operations.
At Nepal’s request, China’s Ministry of Emergency Management sends five tunnel specialists to the country to support rescue operations at a hydropower station tunnel.
Four additional Chinese tunnel experts are subsequently dispatched to Nepal as rescue teams require further assistance, with the specialists providing additional support for efforts to reach people and conduct operations inside the affected tunnel.
