Food Industry Makes Major Strides, Strengthening Economic Diversification And Food Security
Doha, Qatar: Qatar's food industry is making significant advances, with local companies expanding production, introducing new products and investing in modern technologies to strengthen food security and support the country's economic diversification goals.
A report by Qatar TV highlighted the growing capabilities of Qatar's food production sector, showcasing an integrated model that brings together livestock farming, dairy and poultry production, food processing and stringent laboratory controls.
At the heart of this system are modern farms and production facilities where the process begins with livestock management and continues through processing and packaging before products reach consumers.
Dairy production, for instance, operates through an integrated production chain in which milk undergoes rigorous laboratory testing and quality controls at every stage, ensuring that locally produced goods meet high standards.
The report highlighted the contribution of local companies to Qatar's food security, particularly through its operations in poultry, dairy and animal feed. The companies continue to introduce new products across its poultry and dairy lines, while exploring opportunities to expand its range of value-added dairy products.
The integration extends beyond dairy production to poultry, with modern facilities operating at an accelerated pace to meet growing domestic demand. Qatar has achieved approximately 98% self-sufficiency in fresh poultry production, a major increase compared with the situation a decade ago.
The country's dairy self-sufficiency rate is also close to this level and continues to rise, reflecting the expansion of domestic production and the growing cooperation between Qatari companies and local suppliers of raw materials.
The report described these achievements as the result of a broader national effort involving the private sector, government entities and local suppliers. This cooperation has helped strengthen domestic production while complementing Qatar's strategic food reserves and wider food security plans.

Private companies are playing an increasingly important role in manufacturing food products and developing livestock and agricultural production. Their investments are supported through cooperation with relevant government authorities, creating a model in which commercial growth and national food security objectives reinforce each other.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, the expansion of Qatar's food industry is generating wider economic benefits by creating local production chains, supporting investment and employment, and increasing the value generated within the national economy.
The sector is also witnessing continued investment in advanced infrastructure. New farms and livestock facilities are being developed with high-quality, technology-driven systems, while new manufacturing plants are being equipped with advanced machinery aimed at improving production quality and efficiency.
These investments are helping local producers enhance the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of their products, while expanding their ability to respond to changing consumer demand. The developments demonstrate that Qatar's food industry is evolving from a focus on basic domestic supply toward a more integrated and technologically advanced production ecosystem. Behind every locally produced package is now an increasingly sophisticated network of farms, factories, laboratories, suppliers and logistics operations. Together, these components are strengthening Qatar's ability to secure essential food supplies, reduce dependence on external markets and build greater resilience against global disruptions.
