Storm Cuts Power Across Syria's Homs Province
(MENAFN) A powerful storm has knocked out electricity in multiple parts of Syria's central Homs province, local authorities said Saturday.
The storm, which has battered the region since Friday afternoon, has forced more than 20 medium-voltage lines out of commission, according to a Syrian broadcaster, citing the Homs General Electricity Company.
The outages have hit rural areas including Taldu, Al-Mukharram, Shin, Talkalakh and Palmyra, along with other parts of the province, the company said.
Technical crews are working to gradually restore power to the affected areas, it added.
Syria's Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry warned Wednesday that unsettled weather would grip the country from Friday afternoon through Monday evening, bringing heavy thunderstorms.
The country's infrastructure remains severely compromised after 14 years of devastating war under the Bashar al-Assad regime, from 2011 to 2024 — damage that has left Syria increasingly vulnerable to natural disasters and extreme weather.
