Galatasaray Edge Five-Goal Thriller Against Goztepe 3-2
(MENAFN) Galatasaray claimed a 3-2 home win over Goztepe Saturday in a five-goal thriller during week three of the Turkish Super Lig.
Goztepe struck first in the 16th minute, when Efkan Bekiroglu's right-side corner was flicked on by Henrique toward the far post, where Miroshi finished into the net.
Galatasaray nearly leveled in the 31st minute, as Gabriel Sara's effort from the edge of the box drifted just wide following a cross from Sallai.
The equalizer came two minutes later. Sallai's free kick from the right side of the penalty arc was headed back across goal by Lucas Torreira, deflecting off Davinson Sanchez and into the net to make it 1-1.
Victor Osimhen came close to putting the hosts ahead just before the break, but Goztepe goalkeeper Matej Gugeshashvili denied him after a through ball from Sallai, leaving the sides level at halftime.
Galatasaray came out firing in the second half, generating multiple chances through Osimhen and Yunus Akgun. The breakthrough arrived in the 55th minute, as Sara's shot from the right of the box beat Gugeshashvili despite the goalkeeper getting a touch on it.
A VAR review awarded Galatasaray a penalty in the 63rd minute after Osimhen went down in the box following contact from defender Chris Akonnor. Osimhen converted to make it 3-1.
Goztepe hit back two minutes later, as Juan headed home from close range after Henrique flicked on a long throw from Arda Okan Kurtulan, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
Galatasaray appeared to restore their two-goal cushion in the 67th minute when Osimhen headed in a Sallai cross, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review for offside.
Osimhen nearly added a fourth in stoppage time, but Gugeshashvili kept him out in the 90+4th minute to preserve the final scoreline.
