South Korea Deploys Rescue Team to Find Nine Missing Nationals in Nepal
(MENAFN) South Korea sends a rescue team to Nepal to search for nine citizens who remain missing after severe flash floods hit the Himalayan country.
The missing individuals are employees of Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility who lose contact after sudden flooding strikes Nepal’s Rasuwa region on Wednesday morning. They are working on the construction of a hydropower facility when the disaster occurs.
The rescue operation involves two chartered helicopters carrying the South Korean team to areas where the missing workers are believed to have been located.
Meanwhile, 10 other Doosan employees who had been stranded in a separate area are successfully rescued earlier.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun holds an emergency meeting following the disappearance of the workers and directs the country’s embassy in Kathmandu to remain in close contact with Nepali authorities.
Cho also instructs diplomatic officials to prioritize the safety of other South Korean nationals who remain in areas affected by the disaster and are still awaiting evacuation or assistance.
The widespread flooding and landslides affect Nepal and neighboring China, leaving more than 600 people dead and around 3,000 others unaccounted for, according to reports and local officials.
