Russian Drone Strike Leaves Dozens Dead Near Kyiv
(MENAFN) A Russian drone attack on a warehouse near Kyiv kills 37 people, according to Ukrainian authorities, after an explosion causes extensive damage in the surrounding area.
The head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, initially reports that 27 people are killed and 42 others, including four children, are injured in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region. He later revises the death toll upward to 37.
Around 50 residential buildings also sustain varying levels of damage as a result of the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the drone strikes a warehouse in the village of Myla, located in the Bucha district, on Friday evening. The resulting explosion damages nearby infrastructure and leaves a large-scale emergency response underway.
Zelenskyy says Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka rural community, is among those killed in the blast. Authorities continue working to clear the area and assist people affected by the attack.
"More than 370 people have already been evacuated, and the evacuation is ongoing. ... Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions," Zelenskyy said.
He adds that investigators launch criminal proceedings over “charges of official negligence” as authorities examine how the deadly incident occurred.
"There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas," he said.
