UAE's Masdar And Egypt Review Wind, Solar And Battery Storage Projects To Meet 2028 Energy Targets
During their meeting, the two sides discussed accelerating the implementation of ongoing generation and storage projects under signed memorandums of cooperation, to ensure their swift connection to the unified national grid.
Esmat reviewed the progress of a 200-megawatt (MW) wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez, which is scheduled to be connected to the national electricity grid in December next year.
The discussions also covered major developments managed by the Infinity-Hassan Allam consortium. These include a 1,000 MW wind energy project in Ras Shukeir, a 1,000 MW solar project paired with a 600-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage system in Minya, and a 200 MW solar project with a 120 MWh battery storage system in Benban, which is slated for grid connection by the end of this year.
Esmat stated that adding renewable generation capacities, accompanied by connected and independent energy storage systems, is part of the state's plan to reduce fossil fuel consumption. He noted that increasing reliance on clean and sustainable energy aims to secure electricity supplies across all uses and achieve stability for the unified grid.
The minister affirmed that reaching the 45% renewable energy target by 2028 relies on cooperation and expanded partnerships with both the local and foreign private sectors, highlighting the ongoing collaboration with Masdar in the renewable energy sector.
