DIU Reveals Details Of Secret Russian Biological Laboratory Conducting Experiments With Dangerous Viruses

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Andrii Cherniak, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (DIU), spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv Pos, according to Ukrinform.

According to him, new, state-of-the-art laboratories with enhanced security measures for working with biological samples and chemical substances were built on the site of an old complex on a separate island, where“unauthorized persons” have no access.

“Officially, the facility studies diseases of domestic animals-brucellosis, tuberculosis, and other bacterial and viral diseases. However, in May, the FMBA [Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia] began searching for a lab technician to work on the island, whose duties explicitly include working with pathogenic biological agents of Groups I–IV.“According to the Russian classification, Group I includes agents that cause particularly dangerous and deadly infections that are easily and rapidly transmitted from person to person,” Chernyak said.

According to him, the facility is guarded at the highest level. Its security is ensured by units of the Federal Security Service and the Federal Guard Service, an entire military garrison, as well as anti-aircraft systems and electronic warfare equipment.

As reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine the secret military complex of biolaboratories in the Tver Region is officially named the“Center for Experimental Physiology”; it is located on Lysyi Island in the middle of the Vyshnyovolotsk Reservoir.

Since 2023, the waters around the island with the biological laboratories have been closed to fishing, swimming, or boating as a“specially protected area of regional significance.”

The reservoir supplies fresh water to a number of settlements, including the city of Vyshnii Volochek, and is the source of the Tvertsia River, which flows into the Volga.

If dangerous pathogens or chemicals from the biological laboratories were to enter the reservoir, the consequences of epidemics and infections could be catastrophic not only for the region's population but also for all of Russia, the Main Intelligence Directorate noted.

The biolaboratory complex project was implemented by order of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin as a project of special importance-intended to“ensure Russia's defense capability and security.” Formally, it was incorporated into the structure of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency.

“As is known, in the spring of 2026, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease among cattle occurred in Russia, which Moscow tried to conceal from the world and its own population. It cannot be ruled out that this and other similar cases may be the result of failed Russian experiments with viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens,” the Main Intelligence Directorate noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region, Russian invaders are deliberately creating conditions for the spread of the anthrax pathogen.
