Debris Removal Continues In Myla, Kyiv Region, Death Toll Can Rise - Zelensky

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in a video address, according to Ukrinform.

"A terrible situation and terrible negligence on the part of those who stored explosives right next to people. There has been extensive destruction, and as of now, 37 people have been reported killed. The head of the community was killed while helping with the rescue operation. My condolences to all the families and loved ones of the victims. The rubble is still being cleared, and unfortunately, the death toll may increase," Zelensky said.

He noted that all necessary forces have been deployed to deal with the consequences of the strike and fire and to provide assistance to people.

A criminal investigation has been opened, the President said. He added that he had spoken with the Prosecutor General, the leadership of the Interior Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and that they have everything necessary to conduct the investigation. The head of state said he expects the details to be presented to the public promptly.

"Another such crime – after what happened in Vyshneve – is absolutely unacceptable. I expect the details to be presented to the public promptly. The first strike was on an ammunition storage site that definitely shouldn't have been there – a Defense Forces storage facility. Shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones detonated. The scale is significant," Zelensky emphasized.

He also assured the public that "Russia will face a response for everything it is doing."

As reported, 37 people were killed in Bucha district, Kyiv region, as a result of the Russian attack on the evening of August 28.

Following the Russian strike on the village of Myla, law enforcement authorities opened a criminal investigation into alleged official negligence. The strike on the warehouse triggered a major detonation and caused extensive damage to surrounding infrastructure, including residential buildings and a care facility for elderly people and people with disabilities.
