Rajasthan: Naresh Meena's Health Deteriorates In Tonk Jail, Shifted To ICU

(MENAFN- IANS) Jaipur, Aug 29 (IANS) The health of independent leader Naresh Meena, lodged in Tonk jail in connection with the SDM slapping case, deteriorated on Saturday, prompting his admission to the ICU of Saadat Hospital under tight security.

Officials said Meena complained of chest pain inside the jail around noon. PMO Prateek Salodia confirmed that the jail administration referred him to the hospital at 12:28 pm, where he was admitted to the ICU. His ECG was normal, while blood test reports are awaited. Doctors will decide further treatment after reviewing the complete reports, including whether he should continue in Tonk or be shifted to Jaipur.

News of his hospitalisation drew supporters to Saadat Hospital, where they raised questions over the medical care provided in jail. Former Sarpanch R.D. Gurjar alleged Meena had been suffering chest and back pain for over a week but did not receive timely attention, accusing the government and jail administration of risking his life. These allegations have not been independently verified.

Gurjar said former minister Rajendra Gudha had met Meena in jail on August 22, when Meena reportedly complained of chest pain. Gudha later told the media that Meena was unwell and needed hospital care.

Police deployed a contingent outside Saadat Hospital as a precaution as supporters continued to demand proper medical treatment.

Concern over Meena's health had also been expressed earlier by Sunita Bainsla, daughter of late Gurjar leader Colonel Kirori Bainsla. In a post on X on August 25, she said reports of chest pain and dizziness were worrying and urged the Rajasthan government to ensure a thorough medical examination and timely treatment.

Meena's current condition will be clearer once pending test results are received.
