Nepal Flood Death Toll Rises To 633 With Nearly 3,000 Missing

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The death toll from floods and landslides that swept parts of Nepal has risen to 633, with nearly 3,000 people reported missing, authorities said as search and rescue operations entered their fourth day.

Rescue teams continued searching for missing people and evacuating survivors to safer areas. Helicopter rescue operations also resumed in Nuwakot, one of the worst-affected areas, after being temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

The helicopters have been transporting relief supplies and food to affected areas while also evacuating survivors from disaster-hit communities.

The Nepal Tourism Board said 184 tourists and foreign nationals had so far been rescued, including 114 Indians, 27 Chinese and 20 South Koreans, along with nationals of several other countries. Around 420 foreign nationals remain missing.

Rescue teams are facing difficult field and weather conditions as search operations continue alongside efforts to provide assistance to those affected. Authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further as teams recover bodies and gain access to isolated areas.

Flash floods and landslides swept areas along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday, destroying villages and causing extensive damage to roads and other infrastructure.
