BIS Jamshedpur Holds Industry Meet To Support Msmes On Certification, Compliance

(MENAFN- KNN India) Ranchi, Aug 29 (KNN) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur Branch Office, organised an industry meet-cum-awareness programme for MSME manufacturers and BIS licensees on August 25, aimed at providing technical guidance and handholding support for certification and compliance with Indian Standards.

Around 40 manufacturers participated in the programme, with sponge iron manufacturers and representatives from the cement industry specifically invited to discuss applicable standards and Quality Control Orders (QCOs), reported Business Standard.

The programme was inaugurated by Kunal Kumar, Director and Head, BIS Jamshedpur, who highlighted the bureau's support for MSMEs throughout the certification process, including obtaining and operating BIS licences and maintaining compliance with applicable standards.

A representative of the MSME sector welcomed the initiative and highlighted the role of quality certification and standards in improving the competitiveness of small businesses.

Technical Sessions Cover Certification Procedures
Technical sessions covered BIS product certification guidelines, grant and operation of licences, sample retesting, factory and market surveillance, CBTF facilities for MSMEs, the BIS Act, 2016, and the e-BIS and BIS Standards portals.

Cement Standards And QCOs Discussed
Discussions also covered draft standards for Low Heat Portland Cement (First Revision of IS 12600) and Sulphate Resisting Portland Cement (First Revision of IS 12330).

BIS officials also conducted sessions on standards applicable to sponge iron and related QCOs, along with certification procedures and surveillance requirements.

Industry Raises Certification And Compliance Issues
The programme concluded with an open house discussion, where industry representatives raised queries and shared feedback on Indian Standards, testing, certification procedures and the operation of BIS licences.
