Yemen Intercepts Suspected Iranian Military Shipment in Red Sea
(MENAFN) Yemeni naval forces intercept a vessel in the Red Sea carrying military-related equipment that is
allegedly being transferred from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the Houthi group,
according to reports.
The vessel is stopped on Wednesday evening while transporting equipment reportedly intended
for the production of drones. The seizure is described as part of an operation carried out by
Yemeni forces.
Later, naval patrols reportedly detect five Houthi boats attempting to move toward islands near
the international maritime route in the Red Sea. Yemeni forces engage the boats, forcing them to
withdraw northward toward the coastline near Hodeidah, which remains under Houthi control.
A Houthi drone conducting surveillance ahead of the boats is also reportedly shot down during
the confrontation.
The incident takes place as fighting continues between forces aligned with Yemen’s
internationally recognized government and the Houthis, who have controlled Sanaa and
significant parts of northern and western Yemen since 2014.
The conflict has kept Yemen divided for more than a decade. Saudi Arabia subsequently led a
military coalition that intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized
government.
