Dutch Gas Storage Falls Short of Winter Target
(MENAFN) The Netherlands is unlikely to bring its underground gas storage facilities up to the desired level
before the winter season, according to energy network operator Gasunie.
Gasunie says the country is replenishing its reserves at a slower pace than expected, meaning
storage sites may not reach their planned capacity before colder weather arrives. However, the
operator emphasizes that falling short of the target does not necessarily indicate a gas shortage
during the upcoming winter.
Current storage levels stand at around 45%, compared with roughly 63% at the same point last
year, according to reports.
Gasunie confirms that the pace of replenishment has slowed compared with the previous year.
One of the main factors is the elevated cost of natural gas, which is discouraging companies from
purchasing additional supplies for storage.
