Xi Strengthens Ties with Kyrgyzstan, Egypt
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit Kyrgyzstan and Egypt this week as Beijing seeks to
deepen diplomatic and economic relations with both countries.
Xi is scheduled to arrive in Bishkek on Sunday and complete the trip the following Thursday,
according to China’s Foreign Ministry. The journey marks his second international visit of the
year, following a state visit to North Korea in June.
The visits take place at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Egyptian President
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
While in Bishkek, Xi is expected to participate in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian describes the relationship between China and
Kyrgyzstan as one built on close cooperation, referring to the countries as “good neighbors” and
“are good friends of mutual trust and good partners with common pursuit.”
China and Kyrgyzstan establish diplomatic relations 34 years ago and have since maintained
what Lin describes as a relationship based on “sincerity,” with both sides providing mutual
support. He says bilateral ties have developed rapidly as political trust between the two countries
strengthens.
Lin says Xi’s visit is expected to create an opportunity to “promote high quality development,”
particularly as trade between China and Kyrgyzstan exceeds $27 billion in recent years.
