South Korea Deploys Fighters After Russian Aircraft Approach Air Zone

identification zone over waters near its eastern coastline, according to South Korean military
authorities.
The Russian aircraft approach the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone near the Dokdo islets
and Ulleung Island before eventually leaving the area, according to reports citing South Korea’s
Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“The South Korean military detected the Russian military aircraft before they entered the air
defense zone and deployed Air Force fighter jets to prepare for any possible contingencies,” the
JCS said.
South Korean authorities emphasize that the Russian aircraft do not enter the country’s territorial
airspace.
An air defense identification zone is separate from sovereign airspace. It is a designated area
where foreign aircraft are generally expected to identify themselves so authorities can monitor
