17 From Karnataka, Including Infosys Public Services CEO Gopisetty, Remain Untraceable In Flood-Hit Nepal
Karnataka Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, had said the state government was making round-the-clock efforts to trace Kannadigas who were stranded or unaccounted for in Nepal.
“We are tracing people.... many are not tracked. Information about 17 persons needs to be obtained; it is not available,” Shivakumar had said.
He said several people from Karnataka had travelled to Nepal and that while the locations of some had been established, the whereabouts of others remained unknown.
“We are working 24x7. Specific details of certain persons are not available. Their details will be released soon. A few are in touch and are speaking to their families,” the Chief Minister said.
Gopisetty, who heads Infosys Public Services, had travelled to Nepal on a personal trip. Following the floods, however, he could not be contacted, prompting concerns over his safety.
Infosys confirmed that it had been unable to establish contact with Gopisetty and said it was concerned about his safety and well-being.
The company said it was in touch with relevant authorities and agencies in Nepal and was making efforts to gather information about his whereabouts and establish contact with him.
Infosys is also maintaining continuous communication with Gopisetty's family and providing them with all necessary assistance, the company said.
The IT major has not disclosed when or where Gopisetty was last contacted.
The development comes amid severe flooding and landslides in Nepal, which have affected several areas and disrupted transportation and communication networks. Rescue and relief agencies have been conducting operations in the affected regions while authorities continue efforts to locate those stranded or unaccounted for.
Infosys Public Services is a subsidiary of Infosys and primarily provides technology and consulting services to public-sector organisations in the United States and Canada.
