Israeli Airstrikes Hit Southern Lebanon Despite Peace Deal
(MENAFN) Israeli warplanes strike a town in southern Lebanon early Wednesday, in what is described as
another breach of a US-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, according
to reports.
The aircraft target Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district, with Lebanese authorities reporting the
strike. No immediate information is available regarding possible casualties or damage to
buildings and other property.
The latest attack comes as tensions between Israel and Lebanon remain high following the start
of renewed fighting on March 2.
Israel has carried out a series of major attacks across Lebanon, saying they are aimed at
Hezbollah positions. Hezbollah has responded with attacks on Israel, bringing an end to a
ceasefire that had remained in place since November 2024.
US-backed diplomatic efforts eventually lead Israel and Lebanon to reach a framework
agreement in June. Under the arrangement, Israel is expected to gradually withdraw from
Lebanese territory it occupies, while the Lebanese army deploys in those areas and armed groups
are required to disarm.
The reported strike adds to concerns over continued violations of the framework as efforts to
