US Suspends Visa Processing as Consular Training Begins
(MENAFN) The US administration has temporarily halted immigrant visa processing around the world as
consular officers undergo additional training aimed at strengthening the screening of applicants,
according to reports.
People who already have interviews scheduled at US embassies and consulates have reportedly
been informed that their appointments are being postponed. Applicants are expected to receive
updated information once replacement dates and times are arranged.
A State Department spokesperson said the initiative is intended to ensure applicants meet US
legal requirements regarding potential reliance on government assistance.
“A more prosperous America means ensuring that visa applicants are not likely to become a
public charge, as defined under US law and regulation, and not likely to become dependent on
US public benefits reserved for qualified Americans in need,” the spokesperson said.
The State Department says it has introduced “a global training initiative” to improve how
consular officers assess visa applications.
The spokesperson said the program aims to “ensure all consular officers are fully equipped to
evaluate every visa applicant comprehensively and consistently.”
The suspension comes amid broader efforts by President Donald Trump’s administration to
tighten immigration rules. These measures include new restrictions affecting visas and green
cards, alongside a move to largely end refugee resettlement in the United States.

already made extensive preparations for their interviews.
