Empowering Community-Based Tourism And Craftsmanship In Guanacaste
The community of San Juan, located in the Santa Cruz canton of Guanacaste, is launching a community-based tourism initiative led by local organizations and the Integral Development Association (ADI). This effort aims to integrate authentic Guanacastecan traditions directly into the region's tourist offerings.
The project allows visitors to participate in traditional pottery workshops, prepare iconic corn-based dishes, and take guided historical tours with local storytellers. By removing intermediaries, revenue generated from visitors directly supports neighborhood families while safeguarding ancestral folk customs.
This initiative highlights cultural identity as a primary travel attraction, offering national and international tourists an authentic, transformative experience beyond traditional beach resort.
