New York Museums Announce Fall 2026 Exhibition Lineup

(MENAFN- USA Art News) New York City's major art institutions are preparing for a robust fall 2026 season, with exhibitions spanning canonical figures and contemporary artists. The lineup includes shows dedicated to Abstract Expressionists Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, and modernist Constantin Brancusi, which will be presented at The Met, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), respectively.

Beyond these art historical surveys, the season will also feature exhibitions highlighting artists shaping contemporary discourse. These include artist-filmmaker Arthur Jafa, known for his work remixing Black visual culture; photographer Taryn Simon, whose practice explores American myths and institutions; and conceptual artist Teresa Margolles, whose work confronts themes of death. Additionally, the American Folk Art Museum will explore girlhood through the lens of art history. The Brooklyn Museum is set to exhibit Hopi Kachina dolls, which embody fertility and rain spirits, while the Museum at FIT will focus on doll fashion.

New York's artistic landscape will also celebrate its own unique culture, with several exhibitions focused on the city. The New Museum will offer an homage to the Bowery, MoMA PS1 will feature Masao Gozu's half-century photographic commitment to documenting New Yorkers, and the New-York Historical Society will present an exhibition on the art of graffiti. Furthermore, artists such as Stephanie Dinkins, Arakawa, and Madeline Gins will delve into themes of the posthuman, transhuman, and biohacked human, alongside other artists exploring what it means to be human, as noted by Lisa Yin Zhang, an associate editor.
