First Wind Turbine Being Built On Runa Mountain Pasture

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrinform correspondents documented the installation of the wind turbines during a press tour to the Runa mountain pasture organized by the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group and WWF.

According to reports, on the Runa mountain pasture near the village of Zhdenievo in the Mukachevo District of Zakarpattia region, the first wind turbin out of more than three dozen planned for the wind farm has already been installed. As of August 27, the foundation has been laid, and the blades will next be mounted on the turbine.

Nearby, the foundation for the second wind turbine is being installed, and at this very moment, another-the third-wind turbine is being built on the next section.

Earlier, Ukrinform reported that the wind farm project on the Runa Plateau, initiated by LLC“UK” Wind Parks of Ukraine,” calls for the construction of more than three dozen wind turbines with a total capacity exceeding 100 MW. The height of each wind turbine, including the blades, reaches 150–180 meters.

As reported, in February 2026, the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine issued a positive environmental impact assessment (EIA) regarding the construction of a wind power plant (WPP) on the Runa Plateau in Zakarpattia region.

Ukrinform also noted that the project is the first wind farm to be built in the highlands of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Since the project's inception, it has been the subject of public debate due to both supporters and opponents of development in the highlands. For their part, the investors (companies affiliated with LLC“UK 'Wind Parks of Ukraine'” Management Company) and the regional administration justify the need for construction by citing the need to decentralize power generation and strengthen Transcarpathia's energy resilience amid a capacity shortage in the overall power grid.

On the other hand, despite the positive conclusion of the environmental impact assessment, environmental organizations (in particular, the Ukrainian Environmental Group and WWF-Ukraine) have sharply criticized the decision and questioned the project's safety, arguing that development in the highlands disrupts high-altitude ecosystems and threatens biodiversity.
