Explosion In South Waziristan Leaves 1 Dead, 8 Injured


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) "> KABUL (Pajhwok): One individual was killed and eight others injured in an explosion at a market in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistani media reported on Friday.

Dawn reported that the blast occurred at around 10:45am at Makin market in Upper South Waziristan.

Ghulam Mubashir Makin, a local police official, said unidentified individuals had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on a motorcycle, which detonated at around 10:45am, initially injuring nine people.

He said Inayatullah, Shart Khan and Bangi Khan, three members of the local peace committee, were among the injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Hidayatullah, deputy district police officer, later said Inayatullah succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital.

Police said several shops were also damaged in the blast. Security forces cordoned off the area following the explosion and launched a search operation.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast. Police said investigations were underway to identify those responsible.
