EU Provides €2 Million For Nepal Flood Relief
BRUSSELS, Aug 28 (dpa) -- The European Union has allocated €2 million ($2.3 million) in humanitarian relief for survivors of a flash flood that killed more than 500 people in Nepal.
"Roads washed away. Villages cut off. Families searching for missing loved ones. The flash floods in Nepal have shattered communities already rebuilding from past disasters," said EU Crisis Commissioner Hadja Lahbib in a statement published on Friday.The funding is meant to cover urgent health care needs, food, shelter and water, she said.
EU-funded partners are already providing help on the ground, the European Commission said.The humanitarian aid comes in addition to almost €3 million allocated earlier this year for disaster preparedness.
