Dr Prashidha Khatiwada is a structural and earthquake engineer specialising in multi-hazard structural resilience, advanced seismic modelling, and digital technologies for infrastructure assessment. His research focuses on understanding how buildings perform under extreme hazards and translating this knowledge into practical engineering tools for risk assessment and resilient design. He completed his PhD at the University of Melbourne, where he developed a digital-twin framework for rapid seismic vulnerability assessment of buildings at the urban scale, integrating nonlinear time-history analysis with geospatial data and urban digital twin. His recent work also explores urban-scale digital frameworks for climate-adaptive infrastructure, including feasibility assessment of green roofs on existing buildings. He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications and and has presented his work at leading international conferences in earthquake and structural engineering. His technical expertise spans nonlinear structural analysis, ground-motion modelling, structural health monitoring, geospatial data analytics, urban-scale seismic risk modelling, and circular construction materials for low-carbon infrastructure.

At Swinburne, Dr Khatiwada contributes to collaborative research on multi-hazard infrastructure resilience, including the National Hazards Research Australia (NHRA) project with partners such as James Cook University and the Cyclone Testing Station. He is also involved in the SmartCrete project, which investigates innovative precast structural systems for resilient construction. In parallel, he collaborates with RMIT University and Newcastle University on circular construction materials, including low-carbon and removable mortar systems derived from agricultural waste. He is a key developer of QuakeAdvice, an open-access platform providing tools for code-based and advanced structural analysis, seismic simulation, and digital-twin-enabled infrastructure assessment, used by more than 50,000 engineers and researchers worldwide. He welcomes collaborations in resilient infrastructure, digital twins, and sustainable construction.
