Kherson Could Face Prolonged Power And Heating Blackouts After Russian Strike On CHP Plant

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) As reported by Ukrinform, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Prokudin said this in a Telegram post.

According to him, the Kherson CHP plant sustained extremely serious damage in the Russian attack overnight on August 27, meaning that it will no longer be possible to count on the plant or other critical infrastructure facilities operating as usual this winter.

Prokudin stressed that the security situation in Kherson is extremely difficult, with Russian forces intensifying attacks on the region's critical infrastructure on a daily basis.

Since July 1, the Russian army has dropped 170 guided aerial bombs on the Kherson region – more than during the entire first half of the year. In addition, over the past two months, Russian forces have launched more than 1,700 combat drones at the region. The enemy has also begun using jet-powered Shahed and Gerbera drones more actively to strike critical infrastructure facilities.

“Moreover, in just one week, the number of attacks involving small FPV drones has risen to 6,500. Therefore, we need to be honest about this: Kherson may be left without electricity and heating not for hours or days, but for an extended period. We need to prepare for this already,” Prokudin warned.

He assured that the regional administration, together with the city authorities, municipal services, energy companies and the government, is working on alternative options for heating and power supplies.

“But once again, I appeal to the residents of Kherson, especially families with children and elderly people: if you have opportunities, relatives or friends in safer regions – leave! For our part, if you decide to take this step independently, we will help with evacuation, transportation, accommodation and social support,” the regional administration chief said.

“We are doing everything possible to provide Kherson with everything it needs. But the most important thing now is to save people's lives,” Prokudin concluded.

As Ukrinform reported, Russian forces dropped four aerial bombs on the Kherson CHP plant overnight on August 27, destroying all remaining heat- and power-generating equipment.
