Cinema Heavyweights To Judge J&K's Maiden Film Fest
Srinagar – From Cannes glory to an Oscar-winning sound artist, Jammu and Kashmir's maiden international film festival is bringing together a jury packed with some of the biggest names in cinema.
The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) on Thursday announced a five-member jury for the first International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK), scheduled to be held from September 7 to 10.
ADVERTISEMENTThe jury features acclaimed cinematographer and filmmaker Santosh Sivan, Oscar- and BAFTA-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, German filmmaker and curator Dorothee Wenner, Japanese media entrepreneur and documentary filmmaker Keiko Bang, and National Film Award-winning filmmaker and educator Himansu Sekhar Khatua.
Sivan, a founding member of the Indian Society of Cinematographers, has directed films including The Terrorist and was honoured with the prestigious Pierre Angénieux Tribute at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
ADVERTISEMENTPookutty, who won both the Academy Award and BAFTA for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, is also a Padma Shri and National Film Award recipient. He has served on the executive committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Wenner brings three decades of experience in international cinema and has been associated with the Berlin International Film Festival since 1990 as a programmer and delegate for India and Sub-Saharan Africa. She is also a founding jury member of the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
Bang, founder and CEO of Bang Singapore Pte Ltd, has produced more than 50 award-winning documentaries and worked with governments, broadcasters and media organisations in over 25 countries. She is also a prominent advocate of international co-productions across Asia.
Khatua, an FTII alumnus and former director of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, is a National Film Award-winning filmmaker and educator. He has worked on acclaimed films including Shunya Swaroopa and Ishanou and has mentored generations of filmmakers.
The jury will assess entries across the festival's international, national and Jammu and Kashmir-focused competition and thematic sections.
