Yamaha R2: R15 Legacy Gets Bigger With New Performance Bike!


(MENAFN- AsiaNet News) Yamaha Motor has finally launched the much-awaited Yamaha YZF-R2 in India, targeting young riders. With a starting price of ₹2.30 lakh, this bike is all set to give tough competition to rivals like the KTM RC 200 and Karizma XMR 210.Yamaha is a huge favourite among young riders and college students in India, especially the YZF-R15. Now, Yamaha Motor India takes that craze to the next level by globally launching its new YZF-R2 supersport motorcycle in the country. The company started pre-bookings on August 12 for a token amount of ₹10,000. This bike arrives as a more powerful version of the R15.

The Yamaha R2 packs a completely new 204cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. This powerhouse produces 26.5 PS (26.1 bhp) of power at 10,000 rpm and 19.1 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. Unlike the R15's SOHC engine, this one uses a Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) setup. What's special is that its engine valves get the same Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating used in the flagship YZF-R1, which reduces friction and makes the ride super smooth and fast.

For this bike, Yamaha has used a specially designed, all-new diamond steel frame that weighs just 14 kg. With a total curb weight of only 149 kg, the Yamaha R2 has created a new record. It is now the lightest bike in its segment, beating competitors like the KTM RC 200 and the Hero Karizma XMR.

Yamaha has loaded this new bike with advanced features perfect for the young generation. It gets Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) with three riding modes: Street, Sport, and Rain. You also get a 5-inch full-colour TFT display, traction control, an assist and slipper clutch, and dual-channel ABS. The mid and top models feature a segment-first bi-directional quick shifter and body-coloured alloy wheels. The R2 M pack adds a preload-adjustable suspension, adjustable levers, a faux suede seat, a silver swingarm, and a smart key system.The Yamaha R2 model comes in 3 variants and 5 attractive colours: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Grey, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue, and Metallic Grey. The base variant costs ₹2.30 lakh, the Quick Shifter variant is priced at ₹2.39 lakh, and the top-end YZF-R2 M variant will set you back by ₹2.53 lakh (all ex-showroom prices). These new Yamaha R2 bikes will be sold exclusively through Yamaha Blue Square dealerships. Deliveries are set to begin from mid-September 2026. The R2 will join the R15, MT-15, and XSR 155 in Yamaha's Indian lineup.
