Drones Hit Sites in Northern Iraq's Erbil Province

(MENAFN) Two drones targeted locations in the Soran district of northern Iraq's Erbil province in the early hours of Thursday, according to local media reports.

A powerful explosion rocked Soran, followed by a fire that broke out near the Badliyan area, an Erbil-based media outlet reported. The outlet confirmed two drones were used in the strike, though no immediate information was available regarding the intended targets, casualties, or extent of the damage.

Iraqi authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

Thursday's strike marks the first such attack since Aug. 17, when two drones hit the office of Masrour Barzani, prime minister of Iraq's Kurdish Region, as well as the residence of the regional intelligence chief in northern Erbil.

In the aftermath of that earlier attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered the formation of an investigative committee tasked with determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
