UKMTO: Tanker Struck by Mystery Projectile, Crew Safe

(MENAFN) A tanker came under fire from an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, sparking a blaze that has since been brought under control, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center, which monitors maritime security across the region and regularly issues advisories to commercial shipping operators navigating one of the world's most strategically vital and heavily trafficked waterways.

"All crew are reported as safe and accounted for and there has been no report of environmental impact," UKMTO said in an advisory note released shortly after the incident, offering some reassurance amid ongoing uncertainty over what triggered the attack.

Officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the strike, though no further details have yet been made public. UKMTO urged vessels transiting the region to exercise caution, maintain heightened vigilance, and report any suspicious activity they encounter while operating in these waters.
