Israeli Forces Arrest Palestinian Minister in Occupied Jerusalem

(MENAFN) Israeli authorities detain Ashraf al-Aawar, the Palestinian minister responsible for Jerusalem affairs, while he attends a family gathering near Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian officials.

The Jerusalem Governorate says al-Aawar is taken into custody while attending a mourning gathering for a relative in the Silwan neighborhood. No further information about the circumstances of the detention is immediately provided.

The incident comes only about a week after Israeli authorities also detained al-Aawar at his home in Silwan. He was held for several hours before being released without an explanation for his arrest.

Al-Aawar has previously faced restrictions from Israeli authorities. Last year, he was prohibited from entering the occupied West Bank for six months, with the ban later extended.
