US Imposes Terrorism Sanctions on Palestine Action
(MENAFN) The United States imposes sanctions on the UK-based Palestine Action group, designating it as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization.
The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) adds the group to its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List, subjecting it to financial restrictions under US sanctions law.
The designation is made under Executive Order 13224, as amended by Executive Order 13886. The framework, introduced following the Sept. 11 attacks, targets individuals and organizations designated by Washington as terrorists, as well as those accused of providing them with financial, material or technological support. It also allows sanctions to be imposed on certain third parties that assist designated entities.
US authorities accuse Palestine Action of involvement in what they describe as “numerous acts of terrorism since” its establishment.
Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori strongly rejects the designation and describes the US decision as “beyond hypocritical.”
“As a Palestinian and Iraqi, the fact the country which destroyed both my homelands is calling me a terrorist, is beyond hypocritical,” Ammori said, while describing US President Donald Trump as the “antithesis” of Palestine Action’s values.
The Treasury Department also announces sanctions against Masar Badil and two of its senior figures, alleging that the organization operates as a front for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which Washington designates as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
