UK Urges Public to Prepare for Potential Emergencies
(MENAFN) The British government is preparing to advise people to keep essential supplies, including bottled water and canned food, at home as part of broader efforts to strengthen national preparedness for emergencies.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is expected to encourage households to take basic precautions against possible disruptions caused by extreme weather, cyberattacks and other threats. The initiative comes as the government places greater emphasis on national resilience amid concerns linked to Russia and increasingly severe summer heat.
The plans emerge against a backdrop of heightened tensions between Britain and Moscow. Russia has recently warned of “consequences” over Britain’s provision of domestically produced drones to Ukraine for use against targets in Russia.
Despite the warning, Burnham said during a visit to Kyiv marking Ukraine’s independence anniversary that Britain would continue supporting Ukraine.
The government is also stepping up preparations for its so-called “war book,” which outlines measures for protecting the country against external threats. Officials are simultaneously developing a public information campaign offering guidance on dealing with emergencies, including extreme heat.
“There will be practical advice on things you can do to improve domestic resilience, like having some bottled water and tinned food. It will be common sense, not scaremongering.”
