Israel to Return Slain Palestinian Teen's Body After 9-Month Hold
(MENAFN) Israel has decided to hand over the body of a 15-year-old Palestinian boy more than nine months after Israeli forces killed him and withheld his remains, a Palestinian advocacy group said Wednesday.
The National Campaign for the Retrieval of Palestinian Martyrs' Bodies said the teenager, Jadallah Jihad Jumaa Jadallah, from the Al-Fara'a refugee camp in Tubas, was killed by Israeli army gunfire during a raid on the camp on Nov. 16, 2025. His body has remained in Israeli custody ever since.
According to the campaign, the decision to release the body followed a petition filed with Israel's Supreme Court in March demanding the child's remains be returned. After repeatedly granting prosecutors extensions to respond, the court was notified Wednesday that Israeli authorities intend to hand over the body within the coming days — though no specific date has been set.
The campaign said withholding Jadallah's remains for more than nine months robbed his family of the right to say goodbye and lay him to rest.
In figures released Wednesday, timed ahead of the annual National Day for the Retrieval of Palestinian Martyrs' Bodies, the group said Israel is currently holding the remains of roughly 1,700 Palestinians, including 799 whose identities are known. Among the identified dead are 81 children under the age of 18, 99 Palestinians who died in Israeli prisons, and 10 women, the group said.
An additional 256 bodies, the campaign said, are held in so-called "cemeteries of numbers" — burial sites where graves are marked with numbers instead of names, even though Israel retains records identifying who is buried there.
Israel's Supreme Court ruled in 2019 that authorities could withhold the bodies of Palestinians for use as bargaining leverage, a policy that was later broadened to include Palestinians accused by Israel of carrying out attacks.
